Arcade presents
Iompraím an Talamh Liom / I Carry the Land With Me
A year-long exhibition programme at Arcade
We are delighted to announce our first artist in this series as Sinéad ní Bhaoill who has joined us on a month long residency. She will present her exhibition, 'Idir Charraig agus áit bhog' which has been produced during her time here in Dungloe.
This exhibition series at Arcade centres on the Irish diaspora and the evolving relationship between artists, land, and language. It begins from a simple but complex understanding: that land is not only something we stand on, but something we carry. And that language — particularly the Irish language — holds memory, rhythm, and place in ways that continue to shape us, even from afar. For artists living outside of Ireland, distance changes things. The land becomes remembered, imagined, reassembled. The Irish language may resurface in fragments — in placenames, in childhood phrases, in half-remembered sounds, in translation, or even in absence. From a distance, both land and language can feel sharper, softer, or more complicated. This programme asks how that shift influences artistic practice. How does Ireland call to you when you are no longer living within it? And does it call differently over time? The exhibition will open on August 29th at 7pm in Arcade and will run until October 30th.
This residency and exhibition has been funded by Ealaín na Gaeltachta, we are extremely grateful for their support.
